A cross in which only one pair of contrasting characters is considered known as monohybrid cross. The progeny in F2 generation appears in the phenotypic ratio of 3:1

If more than two pairs of contrasting characters are considered then such cross is called dihybrid cross. The progeny in F2 generation appears in the phenotypic ratio of 9:3:3:1
